Dyslexia Therapist Training

Our dyslexia therapist training program is a two-year commitment that equips participants with the skills to effectively provide dyslexia therapy to students in grades 2 and above. Successful completion of the program can lead to Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) certification status.

High School Intervention Training

Our Jet training program prepares professionals to implement the Scottish Rite developed Jet curriculum. Designed for students aged 14 and up with dyslexia, Jet is an accelerated program. The one-day training equips dyslexia therapists to deliver Jet effectively. Trainees receive a Certificate of Completion, continuing education hours, and are listed in the Scottish Rite roster.

Join us for Turbo Start, a drop-in dyslexia intervention program for newly identified students awaiting group placement. Our one-day training equips dyslexia therapists to deliver Turbo Start effectively. Upon completion, trainees receive a Certificate of Completion, continuing education hours, and inclusion in the Scottish Rite roster of trained professionals.

Dyslexia Therapist Training Details

Description

Word Warrior Academy's dyslexia therapist training program is a two-year commitment that equips participants with the skills to effectively provide dyslexia therapy to students in grades 2 and above. Successful completion of the program can lead to Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) certification status


Successful completion of our dyslexia therapist training program requires:

  • Instructional Training: Verified attendance of 200 hours of instructional training conducted by a CALT-QI. This training is conducted over a two-year period and consists of two, two-week onsite intensive sessions and eight additional one-day onsite seminars. Attendees must be able to adapt their schedules to attend all sessions. (See the schedule example below)
  • Demonstration of Skills: Submission of 10 successful demonstration videos by each participant
  • Clinical Therapy: 700 documented hours of therapy clinical teaching using the program. Participants must be able to teach enough student(s) or group(s) over the two-year training period to acquire the required therapy clinical teaching hours.
  • Professional Development: Attendance of approved professional development conferences to attain a minimum of 12 continuing education hours.

Prerequisites/Requirements

Prerequisites

  • Participants must have their Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

Requirements

  • Participants must have the availability and access to conduct 700 hours of clinical teaching to students or student groups.
  • Participants must be able to attend all instructional sessions in person and willing to arrange personal and work schedules accordingly.
  • Participants must have access to the appropriate technology to complete coursework and to deliver and video-record therapy sessions with students.
  • Participants must attain a minimum of 12 instructor-approved continuing education hours..

Schedule

Typical Training Schedule:

  • Year1 Two-Week Intensive: Summer break
  • Year1 Seminar1: Early Fall (one day)
  • Year1 Seminar2: Late Fall (one day)
  • Year1 Seminar3: Mid Winter (one day)
  • Year1 Seminar4: Spring (one day)


  • Year2 Two-Week Intensive: Summer break
  • Year2 Seminar5: Early Fall (one day)
  • Year2 Seminar6: Late Fall (one day)
  • Year2 Seminar7: Mid Winter (one day)
  • Year2 Seminar8: Spring (one day)

Hours:

  • All training sessions start promptly at 8:30 am and last all day

Meals

Meals are not included in the fees. Lunch breaks are scheduled approximately midway through each daily session. Participants may bring their own lunch or visit a local restaurant during the lunch break. A refrigerator and microwave are available.

Registration

Registration and payment is required 30 days in advance of each year's first session.  See the Schedule section for all training dates. Then, see the Registration section to submit your registration.

Location

In-person attendance is required for all training sessions. Sessions are conducted in Central Arkansas. See the Schedule section for the location of your program.

Costs and Refunds

Costs

Costs associated with our training program include instructional services and all required materials for all sessions. As of 8/1/2024, these costs are:

  • Year One: $2,800 due at the time of registration
  • Year Two: $2,400 due 30 days before the Year2 Intensive session

Refunds

  • For participants who cancel their registration before instruction begins, $800 of the payment is non-refundable 
  • For participants who cancel their registration after instruction begins, no payments are refunded.

JET Training Details

Description

Jet training consists of a single, all-day session that equips Take Flight trained professionals to deliver the Jet curriculum. Jet is a fast-paced reading intervention curriculum for individuals with dyslexia aged 14 and older.

  • Participants are responsible for obtaining required materials directly from Scottish Rite prior to training.

Training Format

  • Single all-day training session


Hours:

  • The training session starts promptly at 8:30 am.

Meals

A lunch break is scheduled approximately midway through the session. Participants may bring their own lunch or visit a local restaurant during the lunch break. A refrigerator and microwave are available.

Registration and payment are required five days before the session. See the Schedule section for all training dates. Then, see the Registration section to submit your registration.

Location

This training requires in-person attendance. The sessions will be conducted in Central Arkansas. The location of your session is listed in the Schedule section.

  • Material cost are controlled by Scottish Rite and are subject to change.

Refunds

  • Participants who have paid their Instructional fee but are unable to attend the training, may apply their training fee to future training. Fees for one day trainings, such as Jet, will not be refunded.

Turbo Start Training Details

Description

Turbo Start training consists of a single, all-day session that equips Take Flight trained professionals to deliver the Turbo Start curriculum. Turbo Start provides a jump start for newly identified students with dyslexia who need comprehensive intervention. It is a drop-in program for students awaiting placement in an intervention group.

  • Participants must have successfully completed Take Flight training.

  • Participants are responsible for obtaining required materials directly from Scottish Rite for Children prior to training.

Training Format

Training Format:

  • Single, all-day training session


Hours:

  • The training session starts promptly at 8:30 am.

A lunch break is scheduled approximately midway through the session. Participants may bring their own lunch or visit a local restaurant during the lunch break. A refrigerator and microwave are available.

Build Training Details

Description

Build: A K-1 Early Reading Intervention is a comprehensive 100-lesson reading program that explicitly addresses all five reading pillars. Build training is a one-day training for certified teachers.

  • Participants are responsible for obtaining required materials directly from Scottish Rite prior to training.

  • Material cost are controlled by Scottish Rite and are subject to change.

Refunds
